Didsbury Horse Show’s
Obstacle Challenge

$500.00 PRIZE MONEY
Purse to be divided between the top three winners ($250-first, $150-second, $100-third)

Friday July 9, 2011

For this competition up to 12 obstacles will be set up in the course.  Each obstacle carries a value from 10 to 50 points according to difficulty.  Some obstacles may be built so that they can be passed through/over from both directions.  The competitor is credited with the number of points carried by each obstacle that has been successfully completed.  No points are awarded if any part of the obstacle is altered or not completed. (No partial points/Judges ruling is final).  Each obstacle may be negotiated only once; however it is not necessary to negotiate all obstacles.  Horses may be ridden Western or English.  (Two hands permitted)

Each competitor has 150 seconds to go through all of the obstacles they wish in any order.  The start line must be crossed in any direction.  Ringing of the bell at 150 seconds signals the end of the round and the competitor must then cross the finish line in any direction as quickly as possible to allow their time to be recorded.  If they do not cross the finish line, they are placed in last place with the competitors that have the same number of points.  When the fixed time of 150 seconds is reached, the competitor may complete an obstacle they have begun and then cross the finish line.  This obstacle will count if it is completed correctly.

An obstacle will be provided marked as the “Jeopardy Challenge” and is worth 100 points.  After the competitor has crossed the finish line, the judge will give the signal at which point the competitor has the option to complete the “Jeopardy Challenge.”  If the obstacle is completed successfully within 40 seconds, 100 points will be added to the total score, but if the obstacle is not completed successfully within the time, 100 points will be deducted from the total score.  The competitor may choose not to try this obstacle without penalty.

The competitor who has obtained the greatest number of points will be declared the winner.  In the event of equality of points, the competitor with the fastest time between the start line and the finish line will be the winner.  In the event that points and time for first place are equal, there will be a ride-off according to the same formula with a fixed time of 60 seconds.
